The US is not stopping with their investigations into whether the Russians are involved in election meddling. Now with the recent indictments it seems the plot thickens. It seems the Russians used Bitcoins to fund their meddling in the 2016 presidential elections. The US is suggesting that Russian Intelligence Officers used Bitcoins to cover tracks and disguise their identities.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said it’s just another page in the story of how the Russians meddled with the 2016 elections.
Apparently, the Russian’s paid for hosting servers, website domains and Private Virtual Networks VPN in Bitcoin currency in an attempt to not be traceable.
The US has indictment 12 GRU officers. The US claims that they acquired the Bitcoins by peer to peer trading, prepaid credit cards and even crypto mining.
